Typical Resident of Cozyrooms
People moving from one apartment to another. There is no storage and no room for extra furniture. This service is for people visiting the area and not locals moving around.
People looking for long-term accommodations. The offering is for short-term visitors. Long-term folks tend to get entrenched and the place begins to take on the feel of being their personal space, which is uncomfortable to other residents.
Unemployed people seeking work. We are not interested in the size of your bank account. We are concerned that you are actively engaged and off the premises during the day.
People on the edge or in the midst of a life crisis. People with personal problems of this sort unwittingly impose on others which is not workable in this environment.
People who are difficult to get along with or who are disruptive in anyway. Residents share the kitchen and bath with one to two other rooms. Cooperation, courtsey, respect, and quietness are essential.
People with pets. We love pets, but they are a problem in this situation. A pet might bite a guest, create a mess of some sort or escape from the premises. Further, many people are allergic to pets, especially cats. People in certain cultures consider pets to be unclean and are offended by having them inside their living quarters.
Party students seeking college housing. This is not a "student environment". Party students tend to feel oppressed by the rules regarding quietness, cleaning, overnight guests, and so forth. Serious students who understand that a rental agreement is a business contract, who can maintain a tidy environment and who do not have overnight guests are welcome.
People with children. Families need a self-contained space for privacy and safety. Residents are not screened for safety issues pertaining to children. Also, families crammed into one bedroom lead to over-crowding, which is not fair to others.
People seeking rock-bottom rent and wanting to share a room with friends or colleagues. We are not interested in stuffing people into rooms. Sleeping on the floor is not permitted. Again, rooms are for one person only.
People with out-of-town visitors coming to stay "a few days". Except for pre-approved spouses or spouce-surrogates, overnight guests are not permitted. Overnight guests can rent another room on the premises or a motel nearby. This is not a "crash pad" environment.
People without a structured daytime activity, such as work, academic research, internship and other activities that takes one off the premises. We do not want people hanging around the room or kitchen all day with nothing to do.
People who are noisy. Residents are a pretty conservative group. They generally read quietly in their rooms in the evening and tend to go to bed and get up early. Playing musical instruments, watching TV with friends, playing music loudly, "partying" with several friends, and so forth intrudes upon others. Quietness and consideration is very important here.
People who are lax in cleanliness. There is no maid service. Residents are expected to clean up after using the kitchen and bath - each time. Leaving dishes "soaking" in the sink is not permitted. This is offensive to others using the same kitchen. Potential residents are turned off by seeing used dishes and pans around the kitchen. Similarily, residents are expected to clean the bathroom after their use, including washing out the bath tub - each time.
People who work out of their living space. Running a business on the premises is not permitted. Working at your computer on papers and dissertations is, of ocurse, fine. But any work activity that brings in "customers" or "clients" is not workable here.
People engaged in any sort of illegal activity, whatsoever. The reasons for this are obvious.
People using illicit drugs or who drink excessively, i.e., to any degree that it is problematic in any manner.
People who wish to move in their own furniture. The rooms are furnished, we are not moving furniture into storage.
People with a lot of stuff. There is no storage available on the premises and residents are not permitted to keep items in the common areas. There is a storage facililty where lockers can be rented two blocks from the building.
